SENATOR AKPABIO’S BILL ON FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC UKANA, AKWA IBOM PASSES SECOND READING


The erudite and flamboyant Senate Minority Leader, uncommon Senator Akpabio presented his lead debates on the bill to facilitate its passage.

The Bill is on an Act to Establish the Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Akwa Ibom State to provide full-time courses in technology, applied science management and other fields of studies and to make provisions for the general administration of such polytechnics and for other matters  connected there with, 2017.

 During the lead debate, he noted the following:
·         That the Polytechnic is already in existence, just requiring formalization of the existence to it make it more marketable
·         Was established in 2014
·         Its to create access to higher technical education in Nigeria
·         He dais progress of any nation depends to a large extent on its technological and manpower capacity
·         It will encourage and promote scholarship
·         Our economy requires high level technical and scientific knowledge
·         It will help to transform the educational fortunes of Nigeria
·         It already has strong and existing infrastructural base
·         The Bill is to provide legal framework to authenticate its existence
·         By February 2018, the first set of students will be graduating from the institution
·         Bill has no additional financial compendium or burden on the FG.

Finally the Bill was supported by Senator Mao Ohuabunwa. It was further referred to Committee on Tertiary Institution and Tefund to report back in two weeks.
