2018 BUDGET NEARS PASSAGE AS SENATE RECEIVES REPORT

The 2018 Budget report was laid before the Senate today Tuesday by the Budget Committee chaired by Danjuma Goje. This has raised hope that the budget will be passed soon and most likely in the next fortnight.

Recall that the Budget proposal was submitted by President Buhari in November last year, with anticipation that it will be passed before end of the year 2017 to revert back to regular budget cycle of December to January.

But due to the delays by MDAs to present and defend their budget before the National Assembly, the entire process  was delayed hence defeating the planned purpose of Jan-Dec Budget cycle.

National Assembly and The Executive have been enmeshed in controversy over the passage of the Budget with counter accusations flying around the media.

It is now hoped that the budget will pass soon to end the logjam and for the agencies to appropriate the action on budget.
