The IG once again
snubbed the Senate of the Federal Republic, thereby forcing the Senate into an
executive.
It will be recalled
that this is the third time in a row that the IG has declined to answer the
invitation of Nigerian Senate to answer questions on the incessant killings in
Nigeria and the dehumanization of Senator Dino Melaye by the police.
The Senate had met the
President on the same issue few days ago and the thinking was that the IG will finally
honour the invitation this time, but it was not supposed to be. The entire
Senate was kept waiting for the IG to come in and brief the chambers, only to
be told again that the IG is no where to be sighted, neither did he send any
letter to state the reasons for his inability to appear this time.
The relationship between
the executive and the Parliament will certainly worsen with this attitude of
the IG, a mere appointee of the President.
As at going to press,
the Senate was still in closed session deliberating the issue. Their decision will
be made public soon.
