It is most unfortunate that as a measure to tighten security in Senate Plenaries, the Media SAs of Senators themselves are denied access into Plenaries on the guise to tighten security by Sergeant At-Arms.
Everyone is aware of the invasion of the sacredness of the hallowed chambers of Nigerian Senate by thugs brought in by suspended Senator Ovie Omo Agege. Infact, i was privileged to be present in the galery while that desecration was taking place. I feared for my life and that of Senators because it was obvious that if those men had guns or bombs, they would have easily killed everyone inside that day.
Sequel to this, the senate was bound to improve and tighten its security to the public to ward off future occurrence. Note however, that these men came in from outside, and went into the Hallowed chambers exclusively for senators after beating the internal security of Senate called the Sergeant at Arms.
What is then most unfortunate is for the Sergeant-At-Arms to visit that security breach on innocent Media SA's who have been with them since, covering the activities of the senate.
These SA's though not permanent National Assembly staff members, are the ones who do the media work of the Senators hence deserve some respect by the Seargeant At Arms who were there and could do nothing when strangers invaded the area exclusively for the Senators. Turning back to take it out on SAs in the guise of tightening security is most unfortunate, laughable and condemnable.
The SA's deserve to do their work of covering the Senate activities of the Senators who employed them.
It's therefore pertinent for the Senate Leadership to call Sergeant At-Arms to order for them to allow any SA who has ID to identify himself access to the Senate Chambers to enable them carry that aspect of their responsibilities.
