The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Netherland have partnered on how to combat illegal migration and end human trafficking both at the country of origin and destinations countries.
The Director General, NAPTIP, Julie Okah-Donli spoke when the Netherland Foreign Affairs Minister Stef Blok and his ambassadors visited the agency yesterday.
She said the partnership is to strengthen the relationship between NAPTIP and Netherlands, to further share information and have more joint operations because the crime of trafficking is that of both the country of origin and destination countries.
“What we are asking them to do is to invest in Nigeria. But funny enough they are the highest investor in Nigeria but we are asking them to do more by creating more jobs so that Nigerians can be gainfully employed. Nigerians don’t want to be slave in other countries but if there are enough jobs opportunities, Nigerians will stay back home and work,” Okah-Donli said.
Netherland Foreign Affairs Minister, Stef Blok said until Nigeria incorporated a strong fight against human trafficking nothing can be done, adding that it is in their common interest to tackle issue of human trafficking together.
Blok also said they both have so much committed to ending this illegal immigration while adding that the people that have good qualification should apply for legal migration.
