OUTRAGE IN SENATE OVER HASTY POLICE REPORT ON ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION OF EKWEREMMADU

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe presented a motion on the floor of the senate over the hasty decision of the police to declare that the attempted assassination of Ike Ekweremmadu was a case of mere burglary and nothing more.

In his motion, he stated that these are ominous times for politicians in Nigeria. He recalled how Chief Bola Ige and Funsho Williams were all killed in their homes and up till today the police is still investigating the matter.

He said for the police to quickly come up with a final decision on the investigation that it was a case of burglary even without interviewing DSP and his family members raises more question than answers.

Contributing, Dino Melaye said how long shall we continue in sin and ask grace to abound. He said the police exhibited myopic and intellectually stagnant approach by calling it a mere burglary even when many burglaries have eventually led to assassination anyway, because you have to burgle a house before you get to the assassination point.

He went on to say that as he speaks now, his police security has been withdrawn leaving him without any security.

the senator at the centre of the issue, Deputy Senate President Ekweremmadu clarified the issues when he said that the ID only sent DIG Operations to him around 1pm yesterday. He said he was shocked to hear the police come out to tell the media that it was mere burglary even without interviewing him and his family members.

he went on to say that the CCTV footage in his house has not been looked into by the police as it was established a the technician.

He said if the police has hastily declared it as mere burglary, he will have no choice but to release the CCTV footage to the media and allow Nigerians to judge since it seems as if the police is bent on a cover up.

He finally said he wished the police could go back and withdraw the statement while also doing a thorough investigation to unravel the situation.

Finally, the senate called for a thorough investigation by the police to come up with the right report.
