Peter Obi suspended his campaign just to rally support and
empathize with victims of flood across Nigeria who are presently going through hard
times as aftermath of the flood ravaging all the people along the banks of
River Niger.
He started the process by visiting Benue State to access
forehand the level of displacement there and to review the situation while also
rendering some humanitarian support either in cash or kind. He directly visited
the people and even took canoe with the people to access the situation in the
area.
Before you think this is politics, Peter Obi was also fully involved in this humanitarian act while he was governor in Anambra. Infact, in Anambra as a governor he was fully inside the mud of water with the people accessing the damage done and also assisting in the rescue mission.
Not only did he do that, all the affected victims of the
flood he moved to Govt House, yes you heard me, Govt House Awka and they were
housed and fed in Govt house until the situation abated and they returned to
their homes.
This is passion for leadership which no Nigerian leader under
this dispensation or republic has exhibited towards his people. While this was
going on, Daniel Bwala PDP spokesman was sharing pictures of him and Atiku and other
PDP leaders in France or Dubai I am not sure, eating and lounging while Nigerians
they want to govern (or rule) as their own case maybe as they don’t understand
leadership, all they aspire is to rule, so they were displaying evidence of
good living when the people they want to rule are salivating in hunger and many
have no homes due to flood.
Similarly, the other candidate of APC, that one who operate
in secrecy, no one could categorically say where a Presidential candidate who
wants to govern(or rule ) also as his case may be, who wants to rule 200m plus
people are not aware of his movement even in the thick of election campaigns. Every
move he makes is all shrouded in secrecy so that people will not know his state
of health which has remained source of concern for Nigerians.
This three different scenarios are enough to tell you what to
expect from any of them when the chips are down and they win the election.
People cannot give what they dont have. This is now a cliché in
the management of our public institutions as people who do not understand the
meaning of governance impose themselves on the people through poverty weaponization
which makes it easy for them to buy people’s conscience with a plate of
porridge so as to impose themselves as leaders only to abandon the process when
elected in power. They start drinking champagne at Govt house, flying around
the world with huge tax payers money globe trotting while their country burns
and slips into failed state with poverty level rising every day and many homes not
sure where the next meal will come.
Next year election, provides an opportunity for us to do a
general referendum on all these expired leaders and retire them forever even if
it will cost us that mere N10,000 or even more they will give us to buy your
vote and conscience on the election day so as to return them to power. Such
mistake could send our dear country Nigeria to the road to Venezuela or Greece and
other countries who failed as a state and could not meet their financial
obligations as a country.
A note of warning here is that, these countries are smaller
countries than Nigerian both in terms of population and other indices, hence it
was easy for them to survive their situation. We might not survive our own
situation at least not in a short time because we are way too huge to fail as a
nation.
Peter Obi has demonstrated leadership with passion to govern
his people in all ramifications either through his antecedents in Anambra or
even what he is doing presently to show Nigerians that he wants to build a new
Nigeria with a different ideology and template for governance which will make
governance trickle down to the common man at the grassroots.
He has no trace of corruption tainting his image, he is a
frugal and prudent leader required for a country like us where waste is
synonymous to us and now with Trillions of Naira in debt under a shrinking
revenue that is not even enough to merely service our debts interest monthly
let alone meet other requirements of capital and revenue expenditure.
The ball is in our court, if we are really serious to change
our fortunes or we are just playing lip service because the person in power is
not from our own ethnic group.
We have the chance to unravel the new Nigeria of our dreams
under Peter Obi. But we must be ready to make the little sacrifices involved by
chasing away those who are moving around to buy our votes in every form or
shape they are coming to us with their dirty money that will not take us through
the 4 years we will be under their rutherless and directionless rule.
My prayer is for our country to get it right this time in
Jesus name.
