INEC has postponed Gubernatorial elections by one week from March 11th to March 18th.
You can recall that INEC was in court yesterday asking the court to allow to it reconfigure the BVAS to enable them use the device for the gubernatorial election.
INEC had stated that failure to reconfigure the BVAS means the election on March 11 will not be possible. The court denied their request yesterday March 7th.
INEC appealed today March 8th and the Appeal Court decided to grant the request provided that INEC allows LP to have access to the data in the BVAS before that. Also the court compelled INEC to store the data in their back up server as they promised through a sworn affidavit.
Now that the court has granted INEC request, INEC is free to reconfigure so long as they comply to other injunctions of the court.
However, INEC said they require to do the configurations at least 5day before the election. This is i guess is the reason for the postponement as they have only 4 days to the election hence time might not be enough to do the reconfiguration.
Its pertinent to note that Nigerians do NOT trust INEC one bit hence the concern over the court ruling to allow them reconfigure the BVAS when the issue of stolen mandate brought against it by Labour Party and Peter obi is still in process.
