Deputy Senate President Senator Ekweremmadu contribute to the motion on Plateau Killings by Senator Jang.
In his contribution, he reminded the senate that he had predicted it the last time they debated about the killings in other parts of the country that the killings will not stop.
He said, we dont have the required security architecture to tackle the killings across the nation. He called on the senate not to give up speaking against these killings. Rather the senate needs to show adequate concern and find a way to deal with the issue head on.
Continuing, he said the FG Govt doesnt have enough resources to deal with the matter. And also, some people are benefiting from the entire process so it wont stop abruptly he said.
Suggesting a way forward, he said State Police is the answer. He said he will commence the process of drafting a bill in that regard and the bill will be ready before the end of the week.
Each state he said should have the type of police that will suit their needs, locality and structure as against this imposed National Police. Such state police should be able to contain their peculiar problems and proffer solutions when needed urgently.
He called on his colleagues to support the bill when its eventually proposed to help end this impunity and carnage going on across the nation.
