The new DG of NAPTIP Julie Okah-Donli has continued her crackdown on human trafficking by matching her words with action as she continues to send traffickers behind bars across Nigeria for human trafficking.
On Tuesday June 3rd, the High Court sitting in Lagos convicted and sentenced three women to prison for human trafficking with option of fine.
The women are: Precious Owoh 29 years old from Delta State, Blessing Gabriel (aka Precious) 25 years old from Edo State , and Rose Gabriel 25 years old from Edo state also.
The sentencing was within range of 2 to 5 years with option of fine.
Accordingly, the agency also secured conviction in Markurdi Benue state against one Daniel Abende, 39 years old for human trafficking with a conviction of two years imprisonment.
Applauding the court decisions, the indefatigable DG of the agent Julie Okah-Donli lauded the efforts of the Judiciary in ensuring that justice is secured, and urged victims to report cases of human trafficking and exploitation to NAPTIP as the Agency is ready to fight to ensure that they get justice. She reminded the members of the public that internal trafficking is as real as external trafficking, as young Nigerians are moved from the rural areas to urban cities for exploitative prostitution. She further warned perpetrators to desist from such acts as the arm of the law will catch up with them.
