NATIONAL ASSEMBLY HOLDS OPEN WEEK

The National Assembly today began its open week program that will run from today July 16th to 19th of July. The week will allow National Assembly to showcase its responsibilities and functions to the public.

There is that assumption that members of the public do not really understand the working of the National Assembly and their deep oversight functions which is the height of their legislative function.
Most people think that National Assembly members just come to plenary for 3 days to deliberate issues and go home after three hours of sitting. But legislative function is more than that.

The legislature does a very expansive function which includes includes oversighting all the MDAs of the Govt and putting them on check for proper accountability and effective governance.

This is why this Open Week is relevant. The week will afford the legislators the opportunity to showcase their roles and responsibilities to the entire public to create awareness about the relevance of the oversight functions in the day to day administration.

All the committees of the national Assembly will have their own unit where they will educate the public about what they do with some materials shared to pass across this message accordingly.
There will also be an interactive session that allows the public to ask questions.
The Open week will end on July 19th.
