The Senate has passed a motion calling on Ministry of Aviation and Transport to as a matter of urgency resurface and reconstruct the Runway of Akanu Ibiam Airport, Enugu and also to extend the length of the runway.
This decision came through a motion presented by Senator Chukwuka Utazi about the need for reconstruction of the runway.
Many senators who contributed to the motion decried the situation where lives are risked everyday flying through the airport with such a bumpy runway that elicits appeals from the Pilots that fly into the airport to passengers who have connections to the Govt to urgently appeal for reconstruction to avert future danger on the airport.
It was also noted that Ethiopian Cargo airlines stopped landing there due to the repeated busting of the tires by the runway.
Senator Bala N'Allah who is the chairman aviation committee also recounted the danger the airport poses to the lives of people that use that route as it is technically unsafe to land on the airport.
The senate unanimously passed the motion without any dissenting voice to save the nation from future danger that is locking if the aiport is not reconstructed.
