SENATE TODAY



In today’s plenary, our indefatigable Senator Stella Oduah had the honour to second the motion on the floor of the senate to approve the Votes and Proceedings of yesterday July 18th,2018  thereby opening the floor for the senate to start deliberations on today’s(July 19th, 2018) order paper.

When the senate started the day’s activities in earnest, a lot of issues ranging from motions, bills etc were deliberated upon.

 The Senate President started the day by reading a letter from Mr President on nominees for FERMA seeking confirmation of the nominees by the Senate. The letter created lot of uproar in the chambers but to calm things down, the Senate President in his wisdom mandated the committee on Federal Character to do a review of the appointments of head of all MDA so far to know if there is equity and fairness by representing all regions and report back to Senate on Tuesday July 24th.

Accordingly, the list of nominees from the President for Federal Civil Service Commission was referred to the committee on Establishment and Public Service.

The Senate went ahead to pass the following Bills:
1.      National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Bill, 2018
2.      Nigeria Postal Services ct CAP N127 LFN 2004(Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2018
3.      Agency for National Ethics and Values (Est, etc) Bill, 2018
4.      National Commission for Peace, Reconciliation and Mediation Bill, 2018
5.      National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency Act 2006(Amendment) Bill, 2018
After all the above deliberations and more, the senate adjourned sitting to Tuesday, July 24 2018.
