APC NEVER LEARNS

The drama and the desperate scramble for positions in government is on again with expected crisis looming in APC,  a party that refuses to learn the lesson that in a diverse society like us, the only recipe for peace and stable government is an inclusive government that respects and captures the interest of everyone who is part of the union.

Rejig back to 2015 when the party after wining election, put caution to the wind and decided to talk about  the so called "97% " and "5%", an open invitation for minorities or better still those who did not vote overwhelmingly for them to do their worse as their interest would never be accommodated in their govt.

That miscalculation and very wrong policy of Govt created window for agitations and emergence of IPOB, Niger Delta Avengers and many other interest groups that were relegated just because they did not abandon their political inclination and ideology to vote for a party that has not hidden its disdain for christians, South East and South South people. The question is, why would a party that openly shows apathy for you and your people through their lopsided programs and policies, expect you to vote for them anyway.? It doesnt make sense at all. Politics is interest driven., if you cannot accommodate my interest, why would you expect me to vote for you?

In civilised climes, when a party looses support from any base in a democracy, the party sits down to do the appraisal of the situation, and design strategies to assuage the sitiation and address the grievances of those people in other to win them over in next election.

Ours is a regimented, militarised and totalitarian type of democracy if there is anything like that anyway. A situation where people are coerced to vote for a party that does not represent their interest by force as any disobedience will be tantamount to total exclusion in government and its policies and programs.

APC has just won election which as a matter of fact is debatable already in court, but in the same style of avarice for power, the party does not seem to be ready to build an inclusive government that respects the interest of our diversity for the sake of peace and stability and to assuage all feelings and start a heeling process over the wounds and divisions the election created in the land.

The party refuses to take a cue from PDP a party that governed Nigeria  for 16 years and no ethnic group ever felt marginalised or excluded in their sharing of our national cake as all zones were repeatedly accommodated in the sharing formula for positions.

The only time a region felt marginalised was in 2011 when the party had officially zoned speaker of the House of Representative to South West but their own son Tinubu and his AD legislators worked overnight to scuttle the opportunity of Honourable Mulikat Akande their kinswoman who was the candidate PDP chose as speaker to cover the interest of South West in their sharing formular. Tinubu and her South West AD members including Gbajabiamila supported Tambuwal, a strategy to tame her from rising to be a formidable political force from South West against the wishes of their godfather Tinubu.

As the 9th Assembly draws nearer by the day, and APC is back at it again. They have shared their positions and again they cannot find a position for South East and South South people because once again they believe they belong to the so called 97% and 5%,  ratio that has no place in modern mathematics anyway.

Infact, their are rumours that the party tactically worked against the emergence of Senator Akpabio as senator elect so as to suppress his ambition of becoming senate President, a position the North also wants to claim after having President, SGF, Speaker the list can go on. This explains why the party did not implore its rigging machine to support Akpabio to emerge as senator from the south south. Rather they silently killed his ambition and have remained mute about his future in the party.

If APC goes ahead and share their positions without recognising South East and South South in their sharing formular once again, the party should brace up for another turbulent legislature as you cannot hold people down and expect them not to fight you and your policies which are designed to work against them. It will not work.

The South East certainly deserves Senate President or at worse Speaker of House of Representatitives. Anything short of that will be recipe for controversy in the house.
