Senator Dino Melaye
recently made public his desire to occupy Govt house Lokoja as the next governor
of the confluence state.
Kogi is a state that
has suffered immensely under the poor and directionless leadership of Bello, an
unknown person whom providence gave power. It’s not a surprise that he has been
a failure and a catastrophe from inception since he was not prepared for that
echelon of leadership before it was handed over to him on a platter of gold.
He never campaigned for
the sit to sell his candidacy to the people, rather it was when the actual candidate
chosen by the people Chief Abubakar Audu
died that the party APC opted to give the ticket to Bello who came second
during the state primaries for APC in the state. And since the law recognizes
that any votes cast is for the party not for an individual hence the force
majeure situation the party found itself meant all the votes cast remains for
the party regardless of who replaces the actual candidate that died suddenly.
This explains why Bello
is a catastrophe and to say the least the worse governor in the entire country.
Report has it that he owes the workers and pensioners many months of unpaid salaries
more than any other state in Nigeria, with many pensioners dying in the
struggle as they continue to wait patiently for their salaries that continue to
accumulate every month without requisite action from the Government of the day.
In reverse, Dino is a
man who has distinguished himself as an erudite, quintessential, fearless and
vocal law maker who has faced many persecutions from the sitting Govt
of the federation for his stance to bring to bare the wroth and deep corruption
in our MDAs under an administration that built its mantra on anti corruption.
Dino has continued to
also face countless battles with Kogi state Govt that has tried to rope him
into one criminal offence or the other as an excuse to get him behind bars and
silence him permanently. He has weathered all these storms to the extent that
he was only able to campaign for his relection as Senator for just few days to
election against Govt sponsored propaganda and clampdown against him, still he
came our unscathed by winning the return ticket to the hallowed red chambers of
Nigerian Senate.
It’s a fact that Dino was
among the senators the performed and headlined the 8th Assembly with
sterling performances that earned him awards back to back as the law maker of
the year.
Due to his dexterity in
8th Assembly, he was made the chairman of FCT Committee, one of the
committees with the biggest budget yearly at the national assembly and her
performed excellently.
Today Dino is a
household name in Nigeria and the youths see him as a bridge between them and
the old politicians as he repeatedly identifies with their challenges and
aspirations.
It’s not a surprise
that Kogi State Govt has been on his case for the past three years or so
because he has been vocal in condemning the arbitrariness of the governor and
his cold hearted posture towards the civil servants whom he repeatedly refuses
to pay their salaries even when reports have it that some of the civil servants
were committing suicide as a way to ventilate their frustration in the midst of
depression.
The news of Dino
entering the fray to govern the state sent out cheering waves across the state
with many of the youths pledging to even work for him for free.
The civil servants are
so excited and cant wait for the campaigns to begin. Many of them interviewed
in a random poll all expressed their excitement and optimism that at last the
man of the people is ready to come to their rescue and save them from the rudderless
and ruthless leadership of Bello.
Kogi urgently needs a new
vista and direction of leadership from a true and tasted leader who has the
interest of the people at heart and who is ready to mortgage his life to save
his people even in the hands of marauding Fulani herdsmen that are gradually
taking over the entire axis as they kill and main unchecked.
The bad wish a Kogi
indigene will not wish to hear from you is that Bello will be returned to finally
nail their coffin as the governor of the state. It will totally destabilize the
state as the people have seen enough and will not be ready to go through another
four years of hardship and purposeless leadership of feudal oppression under
Bello again.
Kogi must be rescued from
the precipice of economic quagmire and the man to do the job is Distinguished
Senator Dino Melaye, a grassroots politician who is in tune and touch with the
people and their challenges.
