PSG are reportedly on the verge of signing Ademola Lookman, the former Everton winger, to fill the void left by Kylian Mbappe’s departure to Real Madrid earlier this summer.
However, a transfer to PSG might be imminent given the club’s eagerness to find a replacement for forward Goncalo Ramos who will be sidelined for next three months after picking an injury in PSG’s opening match against Le Havre, a match which ended in a 1 – 4 win in favour of Luis Enrique’s side.
Lookman is valued at €40million by Atalanta and look ready to stand on the price tag.
Ademola joined Atalanta from English side Leicester City in August 2022 and has since 32 goals for the Italian club across all competitions. In the final of the Europa League, Lookman scored a hattrick to win Atalanta their first trophy after 61 years.
Lookman’s potential move to PSG: A gamble or a masterstroke?
Despite his struggles in the Premier League, Lookman has rejuvenated his career at Atalanta BC, where he played a crucial role in their Europa League triumph last season. His performances in Italy have caught the attention of PSG, who are now looking to bring the 26-year-old to Paris.
According to reports, PSG have reached a salary agreement with Lookman, making him one of the highest-paid Nigerian players in Europe.
However, the French champions are still weighing their options and have not yet finalized the deal. Lookman, on the other hand, is eager to join PSG, even as Al-Ahli from Saudi Arabia showed concrete interest in him.
Lookman’s desire to leave Atalanta has not been well-received by the Italian club. His absence from Atalanta’s squad in their Serie A opener against US Lecce, where they won 4-0, only added fuel to the speculation surrounding his potential move to PSG.
Atalanta’s management is reportedly unhappy with Lookman’s attitude and is not keen on selling him, especially since they value him at €60 million—almost double what PSG is willing to pay.
As PSG continues to rebuild their attack following Mbappe’s exit, Lookman’s potential arrival could be seen as a gamble. While his time at Everton may have been disappointing, his recent form at Atalanta suggests he could yet prove to be a valuable addition to PSG’s squad.
